FAQ

Trulicity cost questions

How much does Trulicity cost with insurance?
Most commercially insured patients with a type 2 diabetes diagnosis pay $25–$400/month for Trulicity. Tier 2 plans average $25–$60/month; Tier 3 plans $95–$400 depending on coinsurance structure. Coverage requires a diabetes diagnosis.
What is the Lilly Trulicity Savings Card?
The Lilly Cares Trulicity Savings Card caps eligible commercially insured patients at $25/month for a 1- or 3-month supply, with a maximum of $150/month in savings. Medicare, Medicaid, and uninsured patients are not eligible.
Is there a generic for Trulicity?
No — Trulicity (dulaglutide) is brand-only with no generic available. Patents extend into the late 2020s. There are no biosimilars yet approved.
How does Trulicity compare to Ozempic?
Both Trulicity (dulaglutide) and Ozempic (semaglutide) are GLP-1 agonists for type 2 diabetes dosed once weekly. Ozempic has shown larger A1C reductions in head-to-head trials. Trulicity is sometimes preferred for ease of injection (no priming required). Coverage varies by plan rebate agreements.
Does insurance cover Trulicity for weight loss?
No — Trulicity is FDA-approved only for type 2 diabetes. For weight loss, the FDA-approved GLP-1 options are Wegovy (semaglutide) and Zepbound (tirzepatide). Trulicity prescribed off-label for weight loss is typically not covered by insurance.
What insurance plans cover Trulicity?
Most commercial plans cover Trulicity at Tier 2 or Tier 3 with a documented diabetes diagnosis. Some plans require trial of metformin first. The insurance breakdown above shows verified coverage across our seven plans.
Does Medicare cover Trulicity?
Yes — Medicare Part D plans typically cover Trulicity for type 2 diabetes at Tier 2 or 3. Under the 2025 Medicare cap, beneficiaries pay no more than $2,000/year out-of-pocket for all Part D drugs combined.
What if my Trulicity PA is denied?
Options: (1) confirm your prescriber documented a type 2 diabetes diagnosis, (2) appeal with A1C documentation, (3) try a covered GLP-1 alternative (Ozempic, Mounjaro, Rybelsus), or (4) apply for the Lilly Cares Patient Assistance Program.
